Tom Hanks and HBO Co-pilot Wright Brothers Miniseries

Award winning actor and aviation enthusiast, Tom Hanks, is creating another HBO mini-series. The cable network, along with Mr. Hanks company, Playtone, has acquired the rights to the newly published book, “The Wright Brothers”, written by David McCullough. The book chronicles the lives of Dayton, Ohio brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, and the invention that changed civilization.

There are zero degrees of separation between HBO, Wright State University, aviation history and Tom Hanks.
Also a fan of Wright State University, Hanks signed on in 2014 to co-chair a $150million dollar fundraising campaign to benefit the school. In 2010, the actor publicly praised Wright State University, recognizing its Motion Picture (MoPix) program and the relationship to the Oscar nominated film, “The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant.”  The team of Steven Bognar and two time Oscar nominee, Julia Reichert, directed and filmed the short documentary and are also teachers in the MoPix program of Wright State. (Reichert, also an Academy judge has recently retired from teaching.) Now known as an HBO documentary, the film is a historical document of a major shift change in the American economy.

An avid history buff, Hanks and Playtone partner Gary Goetzman, release another CNN series this summer with “The Seventies”, a follow up to their series last year, “The Sixties.”
